White People Money

“White People Money” is an interesting watch! I always try to support my people and their art, regardless of the budget. This film is about 70 minutes long, but it covers a lot of important issues and topics within the African-American community. The beginning portrays a toxic relationship between a couple, which many can relate to. The film also highlights how Black women are often more financially mature than the Black men they date—a situation I've experienced myself. Kareem, the main character, works at a dead-end job with white colleagues who display implicit bias and racist behaviors, despite the company being Black-owned.

Kareem and his toxic girlfriend, Nora, come into a lot of money and face the challenge of how to spend and invest it. While they have potential, the wrong people find out, and soon everyone wants a piece. Midway through the film, a burglar couple detains Kareem and Nora, and they deliver some harsh but valid truths about how many Black people handle newfound wealth. Although not all African-Americans blow their money on frivolous items, it's a reality in some cases, and it's a reminder to invest wisely and grow together as a community. The burglar couple, played by the captivating Jen Garcia and the comical Harsh Gagoomal, make these points clear.

This movie reminds Black people to invest in their community, build generational wealth, and be mindful of who to trust. The title, "White People Money," is fitting. Kareem’s brother, Darryl, talks about paying back loans and references the IRS and 50 Cent. If you're not familiar with the 50 Cent vs. Teairra Mari situation, I suggest looking it up for a laugh.

I give this movie a 7/10. It may not be a blockbuster hit, but it delivers good messages and a few valuable lessons. The setting is decent, and the acting is solid. I laughed several times and enjoyed it overall. It’s currently available on the Starz app—check it out and support!
